WHAT IS THE FORMULA FOR FIGURING WINNING AND SAVES FOR PITCHERS? HIGH SCHOOL. MY GRANDSON WAS THE STARTING PITCHER.HE PITCHED 2 INNINGS,THE SCORE WAS 6-2. THE RELEIF PITCHER PITCHED 2 AND 2/3 INNINGS GIVING UP 6 RUNS. ANOTHER RELEIF PITCHER PITCHED 1/3 INNING GIVING UP 4 RUNS.FINALLY THE CLOSING PITCHER PITCHED 2AND 2/3 INNINGS GIVING UP 1 RUN.THE FINAL SCORE WAS 15-14 AND THE LEAD NEVER CHANGED.WE WON 15-14. I HOPE THIS IS ENOUGH INFORMATION TO FIGURE THIS OUT. THANKS A BUNCH FOR ALL YOU DO.
High School Rule 9-6-6-b-2: If the starting pitcher is removed before having pitched four or more innings and his team is ahead, the official scorer shall determine the winning pitcher to be the relief pitcher who has been the most effective. It looks like your son cannot be the winning pitcher but it's up to the scorer to decide which reliever can. To be credited with a save a pitcher must meet all three of: He is the last pitcher in a game won by his team. He is not the winning pitcher; and He meets at least one of: He enters the game with a lead of not more than three runs and pitches at least on inning;or He enters the game regardless of the count on the batter with the potential tying run either on base, at bat or on deck; or He pitches effectively for at least three innings. I think the save will be determined by the score depending on the flow of your game. Hope this helps.
